Welcome to my Blog: A New Creative Journey Begins

Hello, and welcome to the very first blog post on the Creative Kids by Maryke (CKbM) website! I’m thrilled to finally have a space to share more about my creative journey, the exciting plans for CKbM, and some personal challenges I’m setting for myself in the months ahead.

For those of you who are new here, my name is Maryke, and I’m the creative mind behind CKbM. My passion for art and creativity has always been at the heart of everything I do. CKbM started as a simple idea—to create a space where creativity thrives and where children can explore their artistic side. Over time, this idea grew into a business that offers art classes to children, unique creative workshops, and even a special Art Kit tailored for those who want to express their creativity in their own time.

The Road Ahead for CKbM

As we continue to grow, I’m constantly looking for new ways to inspire and engage our community. One of the most exciting developments on the horizon is our expansion into offering more specialized art classes and workshops. We’ve already had great success with events like ‘Paint Your Handbag’ and ‘Paint-a-Box’ and many more... and I’m eager to introduce more activities that blend fun with artistic expression. Starting 31 August 2024, we’ll be offering a new event—Terracotta Pot Painting, where participants not only get to paint a pot but also take home a beautiful plant to nurture. In September we will have various spring themed crafts and in November we have lots of exciting ideas going into the holiday season.

But that’s not all. I will also be delving deeper into the world of nature-inspired art. This brings me to a personal challenge I’m incredibly excited to share with you.

My Cape Floral Region Painting Challenge

Living in a place surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Cape Floral Region, I’ve always been fascinated by the unique and diverse flora that thrives here. The Cape Floral Region, home to the Fynbos biome, boasts an incredible array of plant species, many of which can’t be found anywhere else in the world. To celebrate this natural wonder, I’ve decided to challenge myself to create five paintings of five different flower species found in this remarkable region.

Each painting will be done using a different medium—watercolors, acrylics, pastels, ink, and maybe even some mixed media. The idea is not just to capture the beauty of these flowers but to experiment with how different mediums can bring out various aspects of their character and charm.

To make this challenge even more special, I’ll be embarking on a flower hunt starting in September, when the weather begins to warm up. I’ll be exploring the wilds of the Cape Floral Region, searching for these flowers in their natural habitat. It’s an adventure that will take me off the beaten path and allow me to connect more deeply with the natural world that inspires so much of my art.

I’ll be documenting this journey here on the blog, sharing not only the finished artworks but also the process behind them—the challenges, the discoveries, and the inspiration I find along the way. I hope you’ll join me on this journey, and perhaps it will inspire you to take on a creative challenge of your own.

Thank you for being part of the CKbM community. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us all!

Until next time, keep creating and stay inspired.

Maryke
